Ten Year Anniversary
My marriage has survived multiple moves, pets, and children so after ten years we wanted to celebrate and reconnect. We decided we wanted a place that was tropical, relaxing and just a quick-ish flight to get there from New England.
We thought a little slice of paradise was what we needed. St Lucia fit the bill and it was somewhere we had both never been to before. It has palm trees, warm weather, sandy beaches, and all-inclusive adult-only resorts.
We started our vacation extremely early at Boston Logan International Airport for a 5:15 am departure to New York. It was a very quick flight and layover before our next leg of our vacation where we boarded the plane for a direct comfortable four-hour flight to St Lucia.
Arrival at the Hewanorra International Airport
Once we touched down on the island, we experienced the island’s airport. It was small but very clean and efficient. We arrived on the tarmac and walked down the stairs off the plane with our carry-on luggage to the customs area inside.
Once passports were checked and stamped, we walked to the main exit of the airport where they had kiosks for most hotels on the island.
We found the representative for our resort and were directed to a private luxury cab that brought us to our resort.
Serenity at Coconut Bay
A swift ten-minute air-conditioned cab ride and we arrived at the front entrance of Serenity at Coconut Bay.
We were warmly greeted by our own personal butler. He had refreshingly cold sparkling waters with paper straws in his hands ready to quench our thirst and cool wet hand towels to wipe the travel stress off.
This gesture quickly and easily relaxed our minds and body for the beginning of a marvelous vacation. He whisked away our luggage and gave us a quick tour of the common areas of the resort then introduced us to the Great House Restaurant where we dined for lunch and dinner every day during our stay.
After our first lunch, we were escorted to our own little oasis at the resort. Our suite was a bit of a walk from the restaurant but it was well worth it!
We could have just stayed put in our own little spot of heaven and been completely happy. We opened our door and was greeted by our suite’s patio space.
It had a personal plunge pool with waterfall and lounge chairs and pool floats to enjoy. There was a wet bar with a small fridge with a cozy table and chairs under a high covered porch with a large ceiling fan.
There was even an outdoor stone shower that my husband enjoyed every day. He loved having a nice quiet shower outside listening to the soft breeze and early morning birds chirping away.
We opened the double glass doors to an amazing view of our spacious inside area of the suite. There was a gorgeous four-poster canopy bed that they turned down the blankets every night for us and a pop-up tv that came out of a large cabinet at the foot.
There was an amazing soaking tub built for two. A rock-walled waterfall shower with a large showerhead and a small separate toilet room. A very comfortable sitting room situated between the doors and bed with a cozy couch and wall-mounted television.
Below the tv was a bureau to put whatever possessions we wanted to have put away. A large walk-up area with stone floors for sink and bathroom area.
Behind the bed were very spacious duel closets that had super cozy robes and slippers to use during our stay. Between the closets was a desk and mirror with great lighting to put those finishes touches on your make up or checking your hair or outfit one more time.
Butler Service at Serenity at Coconut Bay
Just one of the many amazing things that drew us to Serenity at Coconut Bay was the round the clock butler service! They give you a cell phone to speed dial your butler on duty.
Three butlers are assigned to you and are available 24/7. They set up any excursions you wanted to have or any room service requests such as more towels or food and drinks.
You could have every single meal and snack delivered to your suite if you preferred even. There was even a food cabinet set into the outside wall of your suite so you did not have to be disturbed while enjoying your vacation.
We had breakfast served to us in our suite every morning and had desserts delivered a couple of nights we were there.
One of the excursions we set up with our butlers was a zip line tour that included a guided walk around a cocoa plantation, Morne Coubaril Estate.
What to do in St Lucia
It was a forty-five-minute drive from our resort through the very windy mountainous roads. Once we arrived on the estate, we took a tour of the cocoa plantation with a guide who showed us the local flora and fauna.
Each plant we passed had medicinal remedies for anything from an upset stomach to impotence. We were able to taste fresh cocoa and saw how the workers lived and how they processed the cocoa.
Once the tour of the plantation was over, we put on our gear for the zip line tour. There were eight zip lines that had us soaring over and through the canopy, over water, and amazing views of a few older towns and the Pitons.
St Lucia is a very small island that is famous for some large mountains on the west side called the Pitons. They are two large volcanic spires called the Gros Piton and the Petit Piton and can be seen from much of the island. After our amazing zip line tour, we had a buffet-style lunch of local specialties made right on the plantation.
This was the only excursion we were able to do during our short stay on the island because of timing and weather. We originally scheduled a sunset catamaran ride but had to cancel it due to stormy weather.
We spoke to our main butler and other guests at the resort who said it was a great experience and next time we visit the island we should do it.
Our Last Days at Serenity at Coconut Bay
The butlers set us up with a much-needed couples’ massage that was located at the family resort, Coconut Bay, connected to Serenity. It was an easy walk from our resort to the Spa. There we had a very relaxing massage. They even used local coconut oil and cocoa butter for the massage!
When we weren’t going on an adventure or having a massage we stayed put and soaked up some sun at the resort’s pool. The pool was gorgeous and looked exactly like the website photos with lounge chairs right in the pool.
A large jacuzzi at the end of the pool overlooking the horizon of palm trees and sandy beaches. Surrounding the pool were private cabanas with oversized cushioned lounge beds for shady relaxation.
We spent one whole afternoon relaxing by the pool reading or napping in a cabana. Also, they had a great outdoor bar with extremely friendly bartenders who were quick to put a smile on your face and create some happy taste buds. They had lots of options for a quick snack or a tropical drink.
When you wanted something a little more filling the restaurant at Serenity, The Great House was fabulous! It served lunch and dinner. Every meal we had looked spectacular and tasted amazing.
Lunches were very casual and tasty. At dinner time there was a dress code so bring some closed-toed shoes for men and some cute dresses for the ladies. My husband loved the food so much we ordered three appetizers plus entrees every night we ate!
We were so sad to leave our island vacation that we are already making plans to go back. It was a beautiful island with warm and inviting people who made our stay everything we hoped for and more.
There are so many things to do on this beautiful island of St. Lucia, whether you are visiting with your favorite person or going on a group trip, there is something to do for everyone.
