10 Things to Do Off the Cruise Ship in St. Lucia

Getting on that’s Caribbean Cruise you have been dreaming of? Make sure St. Lucia is one of your stops. St. Lucia is known for it’s luscious green mountains, it’s beautiful beaches and and its protected rain forests. There are so many things that you can do on your stop in St. Lucia. I would like to help you out by giving you a list of exciting, fun activities that you can do as you dock into this amazing island.

Visit the Famous Twin Peeks (The Pitons)

Situated in the town of Soufriere, the pitons are one of St. Lucia’s main attractions. The Gros Piton and Petit Piton was formed on the island when the volcano erupted and created two beautiful luscious green mountains. St. Lucia is the only Caribbean is with a drive in volcano. To really get the experience you should definitely climb Gros Piton.  You can book the tour with an array of tour companies on the island. This is definitely a site to see and experience.

Take a Bath in the Toraille Water Falls

Located near the town of Soufriere the breathtaking Toraille Waterfalls falls 50 feet over a cliff side and pours down into a pool of clear water. After a long walk through the botanical gardens, which is not to far from the falls, taking a deep into the falls is a great way to cool off. It is also the perfect place to take these amazing phots that will have your folks at home wanting to come to St. Lucia.

After that long trip across the ocean, all you want to do is relax. Come over to the sulphur Springs and open up your pores. Sulphur is really good for the skin. The St. Lucians say when you let the sulphur dry on your skin, you look 10 years younger. Dip yourself into the nice warm pool of water, but not for too long, because it can become very hot when the sun is highest in the sky. Be sure to wear your old swimsuits as they may get discolored from the sulphur.

Take a Stroll Through Pigeon Island Park

Pigeon Island park is located in the town of Gros Islet. It is one of St. Lucia’s most important monuments in history. If you are a history buff, then you should definitely be visiting this place. At the park you will find ruins of military buildings during the battle between the French and the English for the island of St. Lucia. You will also find a lookout point at the top of the fort where you can have a great view of the northwest coastline. After your history lesson, you can have lunch at a pub or restaurant close to the park, or go for a swim on the two beaches near by.

Beautiful Beaches of St. Lucia

One of the things that St. Lucia is known for is its beautiful blue water, white sand beaches. Because of the dormant volcano on the island, there are some beautiful black sand beaches as well. Get off the ship and go to the Anse De Piton beach for a day of snorkeling. Based right between the twin peeks Gros Piton and Petit Piton , this beach gives you an array of aquatic animals and a variety and coral reefs and fishes. Anse Chastanet is a great beach for relaxing under the sun with their many palm trees. After a couple hours of swimming you can relax in on of the lounge chairs from the hotels and take a nice sea breeze nap. There are many other beaches on the island like pigeon island, Anse Cochon , Jalousie and many more . So many beautiful beaches, it would be hard to pick just one.

Adventurous travelers, this one is for you. St. Lucia is made up of green, lush mountains all around. Imaging soaring through the sky looking down on all this beauty. Don’t you dare close your eyes on the way down or you will miss out on  something amazing. Swing through the forest and allow yourself to enjoy the challenge and thrill of zip lining. You can book a day of zip lining with any of the tour companies. 

 

Visit The Castries Market

St. Lucia is filled with rich culture. The Castries market and arcade is the largest open air market on the island.  It is located right in the middle of the capital of St. Lucia, hence the name The Castries Market. There are over 300 vendors in the market, so you will be sure to find that perfect souvenir for the family back home. You will also find an array of restaurant with local cuisines. That is some food you don’t want to miss out on.

 

Get to See St. Lucia from a Helicopter

St. Lucia is known for it’s natural beauty and seeing it from the air is just breathtaking. Imagine flying high above the rainforest, beaches and all that luscious greenery beneath you. Take in the beauty of this amazing island by air. Get to see all the sights from high above. The great thing about the helicopters is that you can also book them for airport transfers so you don’t have to go through the winding roads after a long flight. This will make you experience in St. Lucia much more exhilarating.

 

Tet Paul Trail

Time to stretch those sea legs and head on to Tet Paul for a day of hiking. Known as the stairway to heaven this gentle 45-minute hike is a perfect way to spend a romantic day with your special someone. Depending on the tour company that you choose, you will be pick up and dropped of at the port. This hike is definitely an easier option than climbing the pitons. As you get to the top of Tet Paul you have a full panoramic view of the most beautiful parts of the island. This is definitely a must see, so please don’t forget your cameras.

This one is for all my foodies out there. Are you one who loves trying out different types of cooking, then this experience is definitely for you. Get ready to have full hands on deck and experience how to prepare the savory French creole dishes of St. Lucia. Learn about the different vegetables grown on the island, and how it’s prepared. Make a day out of it and dance to some soca music and get some knowledge about the different local foods and rum on the island. If you are a food lover like I am you should definitely try this out.
